The terms individual, private and partitioned mean different things at different providers. For a rabbit or ferret, ask whether your pet will be alone in the chamber, or in a separate section alongside others. Both are sold as ashes-returned services, but only one is genuinely individual.

Rules in Tasmania treat a rabbit or ferret like any other pet, which in practice means burial on land you own is usually fine and cremation is always allowed. The extra care small pets need is practical rather than legal: bury deep enough to stop foxes and dogs digging, keep away from vegetable beds, and never put a pet that was euthanized in a shallow grave.
In Australia, rabbit calicivirus is deliberately released to control wild rabbits, so vaccinating pet rabbits is standard advice and a sudden death should be discussed with your vet before burial. Keeping pet rabbits is illegal in Queensland, and ferrets are banned there too. Summer heat is a serious risk for rabbits and guinea pigs across much of the country.

What to do when your rabbit or guinea pig dies in Hobart
