Neuilly-sur-Seine, Ile-de-France
What families in Neuilly-sur-Seine usually arrange
Neuilly is a town of Haussmann-era apartment buildings and private mansions, squeezed between the 17th arrondissement, the Bois de Boulogne and the Seine. Most buildings have a gardien, and street parking is scarce. Before anyone comes to your door, tell them the entry code, the étage and whether the lift fits a stretcher. Avenue Charles-de-Gaulle traffic can add half an hour at peak times.
Pets in Neuilly spend their outdoor lives in the Bois de Boulogne, on the leafy riverbanks of the Île de la Jatte, which Seurat painted, and in the town's squares along its tree-lined avenues. Owners often think of the Seine when they picture their animal. The Bois and municipal parks set their own rules, so find out before scattering anything outdoors.
Home burial is the most common goodbye for small pets in towns like Neuilly-sur-Seine, and with a little care it works well. Choose a spot away from wells, ditches and the vegetable patch, and dig deeper than feels necessary. A paving slab or a heavy planter set on top stops foxes, coyotes and farm dogs from reaching a small body, and gives you a place to put flowers.
With roughly 60,000 residents, Neuilly-sur-Seine is the 3rd-largest of the 3 Ile-de-France communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Paris, about 4 miles (7 km) away, which is where some providers serving Neuilly-sur-Seine are based.
For a second opinion on price, Paris (4 miles, a larger centre), Versailles (9 miles) and Reims (84 miles, a larger centre) are close enough that their providers cover Neuilly-sur-Seine routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.

Local funeral customs and a very small pet
In France, about 44.91%[1] of people are cremated, so there are fewer pet crematoria and they may cover a wide area. For you, that mostly affects timing: a vet may send small pets on a weekly run, and ashes can take a couple of weeks to come back. It doesn't affect how carefully your pet is handled. Ask the practice which provider they use and how often it collects.
We take the France rate from ICI (France Bleu), citing the Fédération française de crémation (2023). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Neuilly-sur-Seine, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Heat, cold and timing in Neuilly-sur-Seine
Local weather decides two things for small-pet owners in Neuilly-sur-Seine: how quickly you need to arrange cremation or burial, and whether the ground is easy to dig. Rabbits and chinchillas are far more sensitive to heat than to cold, so summer deaths are both more common and more urgent. If it's hot, keep the body chilled and ask your vet or crematorium to take your pet the same day. If it's cold, you have longer, but frozen or waterlogged soil may mean cremating first and burying the ashes later.

How much Neuilly-sur-Seine families usually pay
Few European crematoria publish a price just for rabbits, but many have a lowest weight band that covers them. An Irish crematorium lists individual cremation from EUR 150 for pets under 2 kg[5], and a German consumer guide lists collective cremation at EUR 85 to 205 and individual at EUR 165 to 375 across pet sizes[6]. Ask a provider near Neuilly-sur-Seine for the price for a pet under 3 kg.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Ile-de-France: Ile-de-France costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

What Ile-de-France allows for small pets
Small-pet burial rules tend to be lighter than those for larger animals. England's groundwater guidance, for example, sets no minimum requirements for small pets buried on your own land; its stricter limits are for larger animals. Rules in Ile-de-France may differ, so check locally, but for a rabbit or guinea pig the real questions are usually ownership of the land and keeping scavengers out.
In France, your vet will usually offer incinération collective or individuelle for a rabbit (lapin) or guinea pig (cochon d'Inde); only individual cremation returns ashes. Animals under 40 kg may generally be buried on your own land, away from homes and water points; ask your mairie if you're unsure what applies locally.
The first day, step by step
- Ask to see your pet if the death happened at a Neuilly-sur-Seine clinic in your absence, perhaps during a dental under anaesthetic. Most practices are able to find you a quiet room.
- Ask what happened in plain terms, and whether anything could have been done. It's a fair question and a good vet will answer kindly.
- Decide whether to take your pet home for a burial or goodbye, or leave them with the practice for cremation.
- Take the bonded partner's needs into account. Where the remaining pet hasn't seen the body, it may be worth a short trip home before the cremation.
- Confirm the aftercare in writing before you leave, including private or communal and the expected date for the ashes.
- Ask for the bill to be itemized, with the cremation listed on its own line rather than folded into the treatment.
Keepsakes and memorials for small pets
Summer heatwaves can turn upper floors in Neuilly into ovens, even though the Paris region is mild most of the year. After a death in hot weather, draw the shutters, choose the coolest room with a stone or parquet floor, and ring the body with frozen gel packs on a sheet. In winter, keeping your pet away from radiators is enough overnight. Many vets hold bodies briefly.

Questions people ask
Where are the providers that serve Neuilly-sur-Seine actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Paris, about 4 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Neuilly-sur-Seine and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Neuilly-sur-Seine?
The closest communities we cover are Paris (about 4 miles), Versailles (about 9 miles) and Reims (about 84 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Neuilly-sur-Seine too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
How do France attitudes to cremation compare?
ICI (France Bleu), citing the Fédération française de crémation (2023) puts the France human cremation rate at about 44.91%[1]. We show it on the Neuilly-sur-Seine page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Will a crematorium collect from a rural address near Neuilly-sur-Seine?
Some will, often for a mileage fee, and others only collect from vets on set days. For a rabbit or guinea pig, driving your pet in yourself is usually easier and cheaper. If you can't drive, your vet can often keep your pet in their cold room until the next crematorium collection, usually within a few days.
What's the difference between individual and collective cremation?
Individual cremation means your rabbit or guinea pig is cremated alone and the ashes are returned to you. Collective (sometimes called communal or group) cremation means several animals are cremated together and no ashes come back. In France, vets usually offer both. Ask for the price of each for your pet's weight, and for written confirmation of which one you've chosen.
Will I actually get ashes back from my guinea pig?
Yes, from a genuine private cremation. Ash is mostly processed bone, and a median-weight guinea pig returns about 37 g[8] by our estimate, a couple of tablespoons. A rabbit returns more, around 74 g[9]. Ask the provider how they keep very small pets separate, because the real risk isn't losing everything but mixing with other remains.
