Pet crematoria tend to be plentiful in Switzerland, where roughly 90%[1] of people are cremated, and that usually means shorter waits. Some will cremate a rabbit or guinea pig within a day or two of drop-off and let you collect the ashes that same week. If timing matters to you, perhaps because a child is leaving for camp or a relative is visiting, ask for an expected return date before you choose.

Burial and scattering rules in Switzerland
If your pet was put to sleep, the drug used stays in the body. Since 2003, US labels for euthanasia drugs have carried a warning that euthanized animals must be disposed of so that scavenging wildlife can't eat them[9]. That's why vets in Switzerland and elsewhere often suggest cremation after euthanasia, or a well-protected grave with a heavy slab over it.
What to do when your rabbit or guinea pig dies in Lucerne
- Check the whole group straight away. If one guinea pig or chinchilla in a herd has died suddenly, look closely at the others for signs of illness.
- Remove the body promptly after the others have had a short time with it, so they don't sit beside it for hours.

Will a crematorium collect from a rural address near Lucerne?
Some will, often for a mileage fee, and others only collect from vets on set days. For a rabbit or guinea pig, driving your pet in yourself is usually easier and cheaper. If you can't drive, your vet can often keep your pet in their cold room until the next crematorium collection, usually within a few days.
Can pet hedgehogs be cremated near Lucerne?
Yes. African pygmy hedgehogs are cremated like other small mammals, usually in the lowest price band.
