On a hot day, bring your pet inside onto a towel, set the thermostat lower and lay cloth-wrapped cold packs beside them. Summer thunderstorms and hurricane-season closures on US 1 can delay a pickup, so note a backup provider in advance.

When about 72.5%[1] of people in Florida are cremated, many children have already seen a grandparent's urn on a mantelpiece, so a small urn for a guinea pig doesn't seem strange to them. Some families place the pet's container beside a relative's. Others prefer something the child can hold. There's no convention to follow, and a small box of ashes can move between rooms as feelings change.

Malabar weather and your small pet
Hot months in Malabar also bring flies, and flystrike is the single most common recorded cause of death in English pet rabbits, at 10.9%[5] in one study. Burial and scattering rules in Florida
In the US, the USDA asks rabbit owners not to dispose of a rabbit's body without first consulting a veterinarian or animal health officials, because of RHDV2. That advice sits alongside any rules in Florida. In practice it means one phone call to the practice before you dig, any time a rabbit dies suddenly or for no clear reason. Guinea pigs, ferrets and chinchillas can't catch this virus.

Is cremation common in Florida?
