Cremation is routine for people in Oregon, at about 77.7%[1], and that familiarity sometimes pushes families toward private cremation without much thought. Communal cremation is a perfectly caring choice for a small pet, especially if you'd have scattered the ashes anyway or already have a garden memorial for earlier pets.
