Why the Switzerland cremation rate matters here
About 90%[1] of people in Switzerland are cremated, so cremation is familiar, but it's still worth reading a price list closely. The terms individual, private and partitioned mean different things at different providers. For a rabbit or ferret, ask whether your pet will be alone in the chamber, or in a separate section alongside others. Both are sold as ashes-returned services, but only one is genuinely individual.

My rabbit was only four. Is that young?
Sadly, not unusually. UK vet records put the median age at death at 4.3 years[3] for pet rabbits and 4.03 years[8] for guinea pigs, even though well-kept individuals can reach eight or more. Dental disease and flystrike claim many rabbits early. If your pet died younger than you hoped, it's rarely because you did something wrong.
Do guinea pigs grieve when their cage mate dies?
Many do. A guinea pig that has lost its companion may go quiet, stop wheeking at feeding time or eat less for a few days. Guinea pigs are herd animals, so a lone survivor usually needs company, either more time with you or, once it seems ready, a new companion introduced carefully. If the survivor stops eating altogether, call a vet promptly.
Can pet hedgehogs be cremated near Lausanne?
Yes. African pygmy hedgehogs are cremated like other small mammals, usually in the lowest price band. Adults often weigh just 300 to 600 grams[9], so a private cremation returns about a tablespoon of ash. Many hedgehogs die after an illness such as a tumor or wobbly hedgehog syndrome, so it helps to decide on aftercare with your vet before the final appointment.
