Emirates Hills, Dubai
What families in Emirates Hills usually arrange
Garden burial is not simply a personal choice here: community rules and municipal regulations both apply, and villa gardens are usually irrigated landscaping looked after by contractors. Most Emirates Hills households choose cremation, which also suits families who expect to relocate. Your vet can explain what is permitted and help arrange aftercare for cats, birds, rabbits, tortoises, reptiles and other companion animals.
Emirates Hills is a gated villa community in new Dubai, laid out around a golf course and a string of lakes, a short drive from Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Homes are large, with gardens, pools and often household staff, and every visitor passes a security gate. When you ask about collection, give the villa number and let security know someone is coming, so nobody is held up at the entrance.
Wild rabbits are rarely far away in and around Emirates Hills, and neither are predators. That affects both health and burial. A pet rabbit that dies suddenly may have picked up a virus from wild rabbits through grass, hay or insects, and a buried body can be dug up by foxes within days. Talk to your vet before burying if the death was unexplained, and bury deep either way.
About 5,000 people live in Emirates Hills, which makes it the 2nd-largest of the 2 Dubai communities we cover. Dubai, roughly 12 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Emirates Hills run from there.
Nearby, we also have local pages for Dubai (13 miles, a larger centre), Sharjah (26 miles, a larger centre) and Abu Dhabi (65 miles, a larger centre), which can help if your vet or the provider you prefer is based there.

Local funeral customs and a very small pet
If you've moved to Emirates Hills from abroad, local customs around pets may feel unfamiliar. The practical steps are the same almost everywhere: keep your pet cool, decide on burial or cremation, and ask for prices in writing. Private cremation also has one advantage for families who may move again: a small pet's ashes travel easily, and you can decide on a final resting place later, wherever home turns out to be.
Heat, cold and timing in Emirates Hills
However you're travelling in or around Emirates Hills, a small pet's body travels best lying flat in a lidded box, wedged so it can't slide. Put the box on the floor of the car or strap it in with a seatbelt, keep the car at a comfortable temperature and take the most direct route. If you're walking or using transit, a sturdy shopping bag around the box keeps things discreet.

In the UAE, where pet burial isn't generally permitted, shared cremation of a pet under 5 kg costs about AED 700 to 900[4]. Other countries vary a great deal. What the rules in Dubai mean for a rabbit or ferret
Cremation needs no permit anywhere in Dubai; the rules that matter for small pets are about burial. A rabbit or guinea pig is easy to bury at home, so it's worth knowing the local limits first: whether you need to own the land, how far to stay from water, and whether a pet that was put to sleep needs a deeper grave.
In the UAE, pet burial isn't generally permitted, and the municipal route is a mass cremation with no ashes returned. Private shared or separate cremation is available; for a rabbit or ferret under 5 kg, shared cremation costs about AED 700 to 900. The heat is extreme for much of the year, so keep a small body chilled until collection.
Your first few hours, in order
- Talk to your vet about timing when treatment has stopped helping your ferret. Plenty of owners would rather go slightly too soon than leave it slightly too long.
- Book a home visit if one is available near Emirates Hills, or a quiet clinic slot. Ask whether the vet will sedate first.
- Plan a good last day: a favorite treat, a nap in the hammock, time with the ferrets they share a cage with.
- Choose aftercare beforehand and let the vet know, so afterwards your ferret either goes with the practice or comes home with you, as planned.
- Take a print or clipping during the visit, before you have to part.
- Let cage mates see the body, and over the days that follow watch how much they're eating.
Small keepsakes for a small life
From June to September, Dubai afternoons sit in the 40s°C with sticky Gulf humidity, and heat stroke can take a pet quickly even after a short time outside. When a pet dies at home in those months, move the body into the coldest air-conditioned room in the villa, lay wrapped ice packs alongside and aim for collection within hours. From December to February the weather is mild and the pressure eases.

Questions people ask
Will I have to travel to Dubai to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Dubai (roughly 12 miles from Emirates Hills) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Emirates Hills?
The closest communities we cover are Dubai (about 13 miles), Sharjah (about 26 miles) and Abu Dhabi (about 65 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Emirates Hills too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Is pet burial allowed where I live?
It depends heavily on the country and even the city. In the UAE, for example, burying animals isn't permitted and cremation is the usual route. Elsewhere, burial on private land may be fine. Your vet in Emirates Hills will know the local position. If you're in rented or shared housing, cremation avoids the question altogether.
Do chinchillas need anything different at the end?
Chinchillas are sensitive to heat, stress and handling, so a calm, cool room matters. A vet experienced with chinchillas may suggest sedation before euthanasia. Afterwards, because a chinchilla usually weighs well under a kilo, a private cremation returns only a tablespoon or two of ash. Their dense fur makes a lovely keepsake clipping if it's taken before cremation.
Can two bonded rabbits be cremated together in Emirates Hills?
Yes, if you ask for a joint cremation. Their ashes are mixed and returned in one container, which many families find comforting. If one partner dies first, you can keep those ashes and ask later for them to be combined or buried together. Put the request in writing, because the default is to keep every pet separate.
Can a ferret be cremated with its hammock or toys?
Often, but ask first. Natural fabrics and paper usually go in; plastic, metal buckles, bells and synthetic fleece may need to be removed. Many families put in a sock the ferret stole or a short note, and keep the harness and hammock at home. If something has to come out, ask the provider to return it with the ashes.
