Small Pet Cremation in Singapore: what to know
Prices in Singapore for small pets sit at the bottom of any weight-banded list, but the gap between communal and individual cremation can be wide. Below you'll find published examples, the rules worth knowing for burial and scattering, and links to 5 communities with local weather and timing notes.
In Singapore, most families arrange a rabbit's or guinea pig's cremation through their vet, but it's usually possible to contact a pet crematorium directly, and small pets are easy to bring in yourself. That can mean a lower price, more choice of container and a clearer picture of how very small animals are kept separate from larger ones.

Why the Singapore cremation rate matters here
About 81.16%[1] of people in Singapore are cremated, so cremation is familiar, but it's still worth reading a price list closely. The terms individual, private and partitioned mean different things at different providers. For a rabbit or ferret, ask whether your pet will be alone in the chamber, or in a separate section alongside others. Both are sold as ashes-returned services, but only one is genuinely individual.
We take the Singapore percentage from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It refers to people; attitudes to cremating a pet tend to follow it.
Budgeting for a small pet's aftercare in Singapore
Some cities in the region offer a municipal collection that costs little but doesn't return ashes. Tokyo's Shinjuku ward, for example, charges JPY 3,000 to collect a pet, with no ashes returned[2]. If you'd like your rabbit's or ferret's ashes home, book a private provider in or near Singapore instead, and confirm in writing that the cremation is individual.
Pet cremation across much of Asia is priced by weight, and small mammals sit in the lightest band. In Tokyo, one memorial park charges JPY 14,300 for communal and JPY 22,000 for individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg[3], while a Hong Kong provider lists individual cremation from HKD 1,300 for a 1 to 5 kg pet[4]. Expect providers near Singapore to price in a similar way.
| Place and weight | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo (under 5 kg) | JPY 14,300 communal / JPY 22,000 individual | Memorial park cremation |
| Tokyo, Shinjuku ward collection | JPY 3,000 | Communal; ashes not returned |
| Hong Kong (1 to 5 kg) | HKD 1,300 individual | Basic individual cremation |
| Singapore (cat under 5 kg) | SGD 160 communal / SGD 280 private | Columbarium niches extra |

Burial and scattering rules in Singapore
Pet cremation is lightly regulated almost everywhere. A UK trade body has described it as an unregulated market[6], and one directory counts only a handful of US states with laws aimed specifically at pet crematories[7]. Whatever applies in Singapore, your best protection with a small pet is a written note from the provider saying whether the cremation is individual, partitioned or communal, and when the ashes will be returned.
In Singapore, home burial isn't practical for most households, so rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets are generally cremated. Private cremation of a pet under 5 kg is priced in the lowest band, and many providers offer columbarium niches. Rabbits are sensitive to Singapore's year-round heat, so keep a small body cool and indoors while you arrange collection.
Your first few hours, in order
- Note your pet's weight where you have it. Chinchillas, ferrets, guinea pigs and rabbits are all charged at the lowest weight band, but a figure makes quoting easier.
- Ring two providers covering Singapore, your vet's crematorium plus an independent one, and ask how they treat a pet this small.
- Decide who travels. A rabbit or guinea pig fits in the car easily, and taking them yourself usually means no collection charge.
- Pack the box carefully: a towel, a little bedding, a sealed bag if it's warm, and a note with your name and your pet's name taped to the lid.
- Ask what can go with your pet. A letter, a hay ball or the sock your ferret loved are common choices, though the crematorium may need to take certain things out beforehand.
- Agree the total in writing, with the container included and a date for collecting the ashes.
- Plan for the ashes: a little urn, scattering them, or burying them beneath a shrub.
Small keepsakes for a small life
Because a small pet leaves only a few tablespoons of ash, keepsakes work best when they're planned. Decide early whether anyone wants a pinch in a pendant or a tiny urn, before the rest is scattered or buried. The ashes sharing planner shows how far your pet's ashes will stretch between family members.

Questions people ask
Should children be involved in a small pet's goodbye?
Usually, yes, in a way that fits their age. Children who help line the box, choose a toy to go with their pet or pick the spot in the garden tend to cope better than those shielded from it. A small pet's death is often a child's first loss, so honest words and a simple ritual matter more than the details of the aftercare.
How dangerous is summer heat for rabbits in Singapore?
More than most owners expect. Rabbits and chinchillas overheat far more easily than dogs or cats, and heatstroke is a common cause of sudden summer deaths. In the warmest parts of Singapore, such as Singapore where summer highs average about °F, keep small pets in the coolest room during hot spells, and if one dies, keep the body chilled until collection.
How many Singapore communities do you cover?
We have small pet aftercare guides for 5 communities in Singapore, including Singapore, Bukit Timah and Orchard. Each covers local weather, typical prices, burial rules and how drop-off or collection usually works there.
Where can I scatter small pet ashes in Singapore?
Private land with the owner's permission is simplest. Public parks and beaches usually have rules, and some require permission. With only a few tablespoons of ash from a rabbit or guinea pig, many families prefer to bury a small tin in the garden or a planter instead, which is easier to keep and to visit.
Can bonded pairs be cremated together in Singapore?
Yes, most providers will carry out a joint cremation if you ask, so the ashes of two rabbits or guinea pigs are combined in one urn. If one partner dies first, you can keep those ashes and ask later for them to be combined. Put the request in writing, as the default is to keep pets separate.
How long does it take to get a rabbit's ashes back in Singapore?
Often one to two weeks. In large cities it can be quicker, especially if you drop your pet off yourself. In rural areas, where crematoria collect from vets on set days, it may take longer. Ask for an expected date and whether you can collect the ashes in person.
