Marina Bay, Central
What families in Marina Bay usually arrange
Apartments in the Marina Bay towers rarely have more than a balcony, so home burial is not an option, and burial on public land is not permitted in Singapore. Cremation is the standard choice for cats, rabbits, hamsters, birds, turtles and aquarium fish. Some owners carry their pet down to a provider's car themselves; others prefer a discreet collection arranged through the concierge.
Being almost on the equator, Marina Bay never gets a cool season: every day is warm and muggy, and afternoon thunderstorms roll in off the Straits with little warning. A pet's body needs attention quickly in that heat. Set the air-conditioning low in one room, place ice packs wrapped in a towel beside your pet, and plan for collection that same day.
If you keep several rabbits, guinea pigs or chinchillas, perhaps for showing or breeding, you may lose a few animals over the years. Ask the crematorium serving Marina Bay whether it offers a standing arrangement for small animals: communal cremation for some, private for the ones you'd like to keep. Clear labeling matters when more than one animal travels at a time.
Marina Bay is home to about 5,000 people, the 4th-largest of the 5 Central communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Singapore, about 6 miles (9 km) away, which is where some providers serving Marina Bay are based.
Our pages for Orchard (3 miles), Sentosa (3 miles) and Singapore (6 miles, a larger centre) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Marina Bay as well.

How Singapore thinks about cremation
Around 81.16%[1] of people who die in Singapore are cremated. Where cremation is this normal, pet crematoria tend to compete, and some list a separate price for pocket pets rather than charging the same as for a cat. It's worth asking for that price by name. The difference is rarely large, but it tells you the provider handles rabbits and guinea pigs often enough to have thought about them properly.
The Singapore percentage above is from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) and refers to human funerals. Treat it as context for Marina Bay, not as a count of pets.
Timing a small pet's aftercare around Marina Bay's seasons
Local weather decides two things for small-pet owners in Marina Bay: how quickly you need to arrange cremation or burial, and whether the ground is easy to dig. Rabbits and chinchillas are far more sensitive to heat than to cold, so summer deaths are both more common and more urgent. If it's hot, keep the body chilled and ask your vet or crematorium to take your pet the same day. If it's cold, you have longer, but frozen or waterlogged soil may mean cremating first and burying the ashes later.

Budgeting for a small pet's aftercare in Marina Bay
Japan shows how wide the choice can be. A funeral hall package for a 1 to 5 kg pet costs about JPY 60,000[5], while a Tokyo memorial park's communal cremation for a small pet costs about 4.8 times[6] the ward's collection fee, by our estimate. Around Marina Bay, decide first whether you want ashes back and a ceremony, then compare like with like.

Garden burial, disease and the rules in Central
For small mammals, the rules worth knowing in Central cover three things: burying on your own property, scattering ashes, and what to do if a rabbit may have died of a disease such as RHDV2. The first two are straightforward. The third is a good reason to call your vet before a garden burial whenever a rabbit dies without warning.
In Singapore, home burial isn't practical for most households, so rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets are generally cremated. Private cremation of a pet under 5 kg is priced in the lowest band, and many providers offer columbarium niches. Rabbits are sensitive to Singapore's year-round heat, so keep a small body cool and indoors while you arrange collection.
The first day, step by step
- Tell the children simply and honestly. Use the word died rather than gone to sleep, which can frighten younger children.
- Let them see and stroke their pet if they'd like, with the body tucked into a fleece or well-loved blanket.
- Give them a job: lining the box, drawing something, or picking a toy or handful of hay to send along with their pet.
- Keep your pet cool in a covered box in a cool room while the family decides together.
- Choose a goodbye the children can take part in. That might be burying their pet in the garden, or a little ceremony once a Marina Bay provider has returned the ashes.
- Keep an eye on the bonded survivor too, and let the children help check that they're eating.
Keeping a small companion close
Marina Bay is built almost entirely on reclaimed land at the southern edge of Singapore's city centre, and its residents live in high-rise condominiums among office towers, hotels and the waterfront promenade. Pet ownership depends on each building's by-laws. When you ask about collection, mention the tower, the lobby procedure and whether a service lift is available, since management often needs notice.

Questions people ask
Will I have to travel to Singapore to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Singapore (roughly 6 miles from Marina Bay) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Is cremation common in Singapore?
For people, yes: about 81.16%[1] of Singapore deaths end in cremation, according to Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Marina Bay follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Marina Bay?
Usually yes. Orchard is about 3 miles away, Sentosa is about 3 miles away and Singapore is about 6 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can pet hedgehogs be cremated near Marina Bay?
Yes. African pygmy hedgehogs are cremated like other small mammals, usually in the lowest price band. Adults often weigh just 300 to 600 grams[8], so a private cremation returns about a tablespoon of ash. Many hedgehogs die after an illness such as a tumor or wobbly hedgehog syndrome, so it helps to decide on aftercare with your vet before the final appointment.
Will I actually get ashes back from my guinea pig?
Yes, from a genuine private cremation. Ash is mostly processed bone, and a median-weight guinea pig returns about 37 g[7] by our estimate, a couple of tablespoons. A rabbit returns more, around 74 g[9]. Ask the provider how they keep very small pets separate, because the real risk isn't losing everything but mixing with other remains.
Can a ferret be cremated with its hammock or toys?
Often, but ask first. Natural fabrics and paper usually go in; plastic, metal buckles, bells and synthetic fleece may need to be removed. Many families put in a sock the ferret stole or a short note, and keep the harness and hammock at home. If something has to come out, ask the provider to return it with the ashes.
