Caring for a small pet's body in Sentosa
Even homes in Sentosa Cove with gardens are subject to estate and national rules, and burying a pet in the garden is not usually the path families take here. Cremation is the standard choice. The island's wildlife, including long-tailed macaques, peafowl and monitor lizards, also means cats and small pets are generally kept indoors or in secure enclosures. Mention any such encounter to your vet.
The sea breeze on Sentosa takes the edge off the heat for people, but it does nothing to slow what happens to a body in tropical warmth. Keep your pet in the coolest air-conditioned room, with ice packs in a towel beside them, and try to arrange collection on the same day. Afternoon storms can snarl traffic on the causeway, so build in a little extra time.
In a close-knit town like Sentosa, your vet probably knows the people who run the regional crematorium. Ask them plainly how small pets are handled there, whether they're cremated alone and how long the ashes take to come back. A local recommendation is worth a lot, but a written note that says private is still worth asking for, just so nobody has to wonder later.
Sentosa is home to about 1,800 people, the 5th-largest of the 5 Central communities we cover. Singapore, roughly 7 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Sentosa run from there.
Our pages for Marina Bay (3 miles, a larger centre), Orchard (4 miles, a larger centre) and Singapore (7 miles, a larger centre) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Sentosa as well.

3-5% of body weight[4]
Embrace notes cremated remains typically weigh about 3-5% of the pet's original body weight.

How Singapore thinks about cremation
Pet crematoria tend to be plentiful in Singapore, where roughly 81.16%[1] of people are cremated, and that usually means shorter waits. Some will cremate a rabbit or guinea pig within a day or two of drop-off and let you collect the ashes that same week. If timing matters to you, perhaps because a child is leaving for camp or a relative is visiting, ask for an expected return date before you choose.
Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) is where the Singapore figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Sentosa tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.
Timing a small pet's aftercare around Sentosa's seasons
However you're travelling in or around Sentosa, a small pet's body travels best lying flat in a lidded box, wedged so it can't slide. Put the box on the floor of the car or strap it in with a seatbelt, keep the car at a comfortable temperature and take the most direct route. If you're walking or using transit, a sturdy shopping bag around the box keeps things discreet.

Where the money goes: small pet aftercare in Sentosa
Some cities in the region offer a municipal collection that costs little but doesn't return ashes. Tokyo's Shinjuku ward, for example, charges JPY 3,000 to collect a pet, with no ashes returned[5]. If you'd like your rabbit's or ferret's ashes home, book a private provider in or near Sentosa instead, and confirm in writing that the cremation is individual.

Burial and scattering rules in Central
Pet cremation is lightly regulated almost everywhere. A UK trade body has described it as an unregulated market[7], and one directory counts only a handful of US states with laws aimed specifically at pet crematories[8]. Whatever applies in Central, your best protection with a small pet is a written note from the provider saying whether the cremation is individual, partitioned or communal, and when the ashes will be returned.
In Singapore, home burial isn't practical for most households, so rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets are generally cremated. Private cremation of a pet under 5 kg is priced in the lowest band, and many providers offer columbarium niches. Rabbits are sensitive to Singapore's year-round heat, so keep a small body cool and indoors while you arrange collection.
The first day, step by step
- Put on gloves before touching a rabbit that died without warning or had blood around the mouth or nose. Hands, clothing and bedding can all carry RHDV2.
- Place your rabbit in a sealed bag inside a lidded box, and keep the other rabbits away from the body and the hutch.
- Phone your vet before burying or disposing of anything. US federal guidance says to speak with a vet or an animal health official before you act.
- Bag the hay, bedding and litter, then set the bags aside somewhere separate until the vet has told you how to get rid of them.
- Scrub the enclosure, dishes and water bottle using whichever disinfectant your vet suggests, and allow it all to dry out completely.
- Ask about testing and vaccination for the rabbits that remain. Until you have answers, cremating the body is generally the safer option.
Ways Sentosa families remember rabbits and guinea pigs
Sentosa is a resort island off Singapore's southern coast, joined to the mainland by a short causeway bridge from HarbourFront. Most of its residents live in Sentosa Cove, a waterfront enclave of landed houses and condominiums around marinas at the island's eastern end. When you ask about collection, mention the development, any guardhouse procedure and the easiest place to meet a vehicle.

Questions people ask
Where are the providers that serve Sentosa actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Singapore, about 7 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Sentosa and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Sentosa?
Usually yes. Marina Bay is about 3 miles away, Orchard is about 4 miles away and Singapore is about 7 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Is cremation common in Singapore?
For people, yes: about 81.16%[1] of Singapore deaths end in cremation, according to Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Sentosa follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
How long does it take to get small pet ashes back in Sentosa?
Many families receive private cremation ashes in about 5-10 days[9], sometimes sooner if you drop your pet off yourself. Where the crematorium collects from vets only once or twice a week, it can take longer. Ask for an expected date when you book, and whether you can collect in person rather than waiting for the vet's next delivery.
Can two bonded rabbits be cremated together in Sentosa?
Yes, if you ask for a joint cremation. Their ashes are mixed and returned in one container, which many families find comforting. If one partner dies first, you can keep those ashes and ask later for them to be combined or buried together. Put the request in writing, because the default is to keep every pet separate.
Should my other rabbit see the body?
Many keepers find it helps. Letting the survivor sniff, groom or lie beside the body for a while often seems to reduce searching and restlessness afterwards. Give them 30 minutes to an hour somewhere quiet. Then watch closely: a grieving rabbit that stops eating or passing droppings can develop gut stasis within a day, which needs a vet quickly.
