Small-pet burial rules tend to be lighter than those for larger animals. England's groundwater guidance, for example, sets no minimum requirements for small pets buried on your own land; its stricter limits are for larger animals. Rules in Central may differ, so check locally, but for a rabbit or guinea pig the real questions are usually ownership of the land and keeping scavengers out.
In Singapore, home burial isn't practical for most households, so rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets are generally cremated. Private cremation of a pet under 5 kg is priced in the lowest band, and many providers offer columbarium niches. Rabbits are sensitive to Singapore's year-round heat, so keep a small body cool and indoors while you arrange collection.
What to do when your rabbit or guinea pig dies in Singapore
- Ask to see your pet if they died at a Singapore clinic while you weren't there, for instance under anaesthetic for a dental procedure. Most practices will make a quiet room ready.

Will I actually get ashes back from my guinea pig?
Yes, from a genuine private cremation. Ash is mostly processed bone, and a median-weight guinea pig returns about 37 g[7] by our estimate, a couple of tablespoons. A rabbit returns more, around 74 g[8]. Ask the provider how they keep very small pets separate, because the real risk isn't losing everything but mixing with other remains.
How do I tell my child their guinea pig has died?
Use simple, true words: their guinea pig died, the body stopped working and they can't feel pain now. Avoid gone to sleep, which can make young children anxious at bedtime. Let them see and stroke their pet if they want to, and give them a part in the goodbye. In one large RSPCA survey, 93.4%[9] of parents said they wanted better guidance on this.
Is home collection available for small pets in Singapore?
Most larger providers in Singapore will collect from home, though for a small pet it isn't always worth the fee. Collection makes sense if you don't drive, have young children at home or live far from the crematorium. Ask the price upfront and whether they come out in the evening. In an apartment, a small pet can be carried down in a box without any special equipment.
